Sketch Of First Unit Of Riverdale Baptist Church
Five years ago Riverdale Baptist Church began as a dream in the minds of local residents. Under Rev Victor Shering the group rented at 13 W 144th St and held worships from February 13 1955, soon calling Rev Donald Coddington as pastor. By 1958 it was officially organized affiliated with the Midwest Baptist Conference and Baptist General Conference. The church bought a parsonage at 14316 Michigan Ave and finished a basement for the Sunday School. Growing crowds led to moving services to Roosevelt School and purchasing the corner lot at 142nd and Wentworth for a future sanctuary. Plans for the church building were approved September 16 of the year, with drawings and bids anticipated after year end. Services continue at Roosevelt School with Bible School at 9:45 am Morning Worship at 11:00 am and Evening Service at 7:00 pm. All are welcome.
