Fire Chief Herb Schmidt announces a full week of surprise drills and school inspections in Riverdale to observe Fire Prevention Week. He urges families to remove home hazards, plan escape routes, and know how to smother grease fires with a cover or baking soda.
Lorimer Memorial Baptist Church in Dalton will dedicate its new $285000 church at 3 p m on Sunday October 11. Dr T Cedric Peterson delivering dedicatory message with Dr B Myron Cederholm and Dr Vincent Brushwyler also participating. Construction began July 1958 and finished June 1959 with current membership at 519.
Franklin PTA District 1 welcomes kindergarten and new student mothers to a tea on September 22. President Mrs. Edward Roden announced the annual breakfast on September 24, with thanks to Mrs. Fred Vis for coffee cake and rolls. A round table discussion with teachers and parents is set for October 19 at 8 PM to preview the year's school program.
At a Riverdale village board special meeting on October 1 the motor fuel tax bids were opened for School Street 14st to 142nd and Wentworth Avenue 138th to 139th. The contract was awarded to Ss. G. Hayes and Company for 10 881.50 subject to State Highway Department approval. Rejected bids came from Gallagher Asphalt Company 12 147 and Robert A. Black Pits 12
The Dolton police department hosts its annual dance on Saturday October 10 at Calumet Memorial American Legion Post 951 Gulf Street Calumet City. Tickets cost 1 and are sold at the door Dolton police station and local businesses. Proceeds fund police equipment including shotguns tear gas kits and a finger printing outfit.
Riverdale Park hosts two courses starting October 12. A hat making class runs 1 to 4 pm at the field house, price six dollars, with ten weeks. Patricia Stevens Modeling and Charm School offers a weeklong program beginning at 7 pm, registration also six dollars.
Fire Chief Paul Ripley announced an open house Sunday October 11 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Dolton Fire Station No. 2 on Sibley Boulevard and Engle Place and Station No. 1 at 14022 Park Ave to showcase the new station and apparatus during Fire Prevention Week.
The League Of Women Voters growth brings Riverdale and Dalton into a bi city group expanding activities to study Dalton village government. It hopes to publish the study if funds allow and promotes servicemen voting and a directory of local officials under chairwoman Mrs James Mitchell, with a sizable volunteer committee.

The Dolton Medical Group announces that Dr Bernard Cantorna has joined its staff at 706 E 142nd Street Dolton. Cantorna is a Havana Medical School graduate who trained at Cook County Hospital completing two years internship and residency in Pediatrics and one year as chief Pediatric resident.
The High Club plans a Thursday October 14 gathering. Entertainment chairs Bob Szymanski and Warren Letzch will present a comical port talent show. Come and see who participates.
An accident occurred at Route 6 and Cottage Grove Avenue in South Holland on September 28. Police say Charles Buckels of 15512 Gouwens Lane drove a car struck by Leonard Rathert of Campbell Hill Illinois.
Village of Dalton proclaims a Finance Drive Week to support Girl Scouts. It notes local Brownies and Senior Scouts set a civic example and urges community support for a fundraising event at 2 Finance Drive on October 16 1959. Frederick Kasten signs as village president.
The Dolton Ivanhoe Riverdale Burnham Glenwood and Thorn ton Girl Scouts call for adults to support their Annual Finance Drive on October 16 to fund activities for girls aged seven to seventeen. District Three Finance Representative John Vanderwall urges donations to aid office services training troop kits camping and outdoor programs.

Riverdale Dolton Lions join Illinois clubs in distributing Cracker Jack to raise 250000 dollars for blind causes. Funds split among Hadley School for the Blind Leader Dogs for the Blind and Riverdale-Dolton Blind Projects. Third Vice President William Schulz chairs. committee members include Russell Hall Walter Letzsch Ralph Riddell and Ray Wesse.
Stolen construction materials owned by George Hardin Construction disappeared from under the C E I Railroad bridge where they were stored between 10 a.m. and 4 30 p.m. on October 1.
