Dolton Board discusses fire truck and street work

In a regular meeting President Harper noted absences of Ward and Heidenreich. The treasurer reported $9 461 58 on September 30 and the bill approvals. Sewer progress was reported with more inspectors employed. Streets crews filled and leveled streets including Fredericka near Grant. A new fire apparatus was proposed but postponed to the next meeting. Discussion on street drainage charges and a whistling nuisance attracted public comment. Several sales ads and real estate notes appeared at the end.

Officials Inspect Proposed Streetcar Routes In Chicago

Illinois Central and Calumet Electric officials toured potential pathways on Tuesday September 27, meeting at Kensington station and visiting Wildwood viaduct sites, Blue Island routes, and Vincennes road alignments with a group including Baxter, Drennan, Burgess, Drum, and local business leaders.

Gallagher Werner Couple Wed in Chicago Ceremony

Mr D J Gallagher a railroad man and Miss Emma Werner daughter of Mr and Mrs Herman Werner were married in Chicago on Tuesday October 4 at 1 pm They boarded the Grand Trunk limited and will visit Pittston Pa before returning to Riverdale to reside at 13743 Leyden Avenue They are praised as popular and energetic and friends extend best wishes.

Silver Wedding at Dillner's Pavilion in Dalton

One of the largest private gatherings in Dalton celebrated the silver wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Chas Kollenkorn at Dillner's Pavilion last Saturday evening October 1. About 150 relatives and friends attended the all night event and extended best wishes and gifts to the couple. Out of town relatives Chas Leverenz of Wellington Illinois and John Leverenz of Watseka were in attendance.

The 24th Precinct Riverdale Improvement Association met last Tuesday and decided to protest to Mayor Busse. They seek cement walks on Indiana avenue from the bridge to Leyden avenue, urging city authorities to resume work before winter.

Riverdale Official Takes Own Life At Roseland Home

Frederick W. Tegtmeyer city sewer inspector and familiar figure in Riverdale committed death by his own action at his Roseland residence 11903 Lafayette avenue last Monday evening by swallowing carbolic acid. His body was found in bed at 9 25 p m. Domestic troubles led to despondency and a weakened mind. Mrs Tegtmeyer, separated, had begun divorce proceedings recently.

Directory canvass in Highlawn boosts Pointer subscriptions

Samuel G. Scott of The Pointer completes the first stage of a house to house directory in Highlawn. He found 12 families not yet subscribers and plans that The Pointer is valued as residents pledge support at $1 per year.

Pig Roast by Miami Power Boat Club at Camp McDermott

The Miami Power Boat Club plans a Sunday event on October 9 at Camp McDermott. Members will roast a pig and outsiders may join by paying a small fee to cover expenses. The Iwanda will shuttle from Riverdale Park to Camp McDermott at noon and run trips for the rest of the day. Boat rides are free.

Grange Line Bridge Delays Irritate Farmers and Truckers

Farmers, teamsters, and others complain about the Grange Line Bridge over the Calumet River near Globe Station, closed June 28 and with abutments finished August 16. Officials defend progress as eastern Thornton Township faces detours and longer hauls to Chicago.

Riverdale Man Frank Michalski Dies at 6 A.M.

Riverdale resident Frank Michalski died at his home 389 136th place on Tuesday morning October 4 at 6 oclock from dropsy. He came to America in 1880, lived in Richland Center Wisconsin before moving to Riverdale in 1885. He leaves his wife and eight children, plus three brothers, with funeral held at St Marys Church and burial at Benedicts Cemetery west of Blue Island. Pallbearers named Herman Lorn John Schug John Sligo Frank Pietch Frank Yacinski Frank Kuphel.

October registration is required to vote in November. Chicago polling places open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on October 8 and October 18, 1910. Cook County judges meet October 18 to prepare the electors register, and again November 1 to correct and complete it. Voting requires the name on the Register or a sworn vote.
