Sunday Morning Fire at Lawrence Ray Farm House
The Riverdale Volunteer Fire Department responded to a Sunday morning blaze at 136th and Halsted, destroying a two story frame building owned by John Manadok. Firefighting required aid from Dalton and Chicago departments due to hose shortages, with 1400 feet laid and 350 feet still needed to reach a 138th street plug. Damages are $3,200. the furniture was saved. A fire plug is badly needed in the area.

Husband and Wife Buried In Double Service
Funeral services for Charles Smith 67 and his wife Catherine 66 were held at Kerr chapel conducted by Rev Dexheimer. Charles died after a long illness. Catherine died from toxic goitre while en route to hospital. Both were buried in Oak Lawn cemetery in a double grave.

Veteran Milt Jenness Retires From Pennsy After 47 Years
Milton H. Jenness, telegraph operator and station agent for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 47 years, retires on pension Oct. 1 due to hearing loss. He began railroading in 1882 at Indianapolis and served at North Judson Dalton Dolton and other posts, becoming Dolton’s first clerk and drafting ordinances. He plans a Florida winter with his brother, and C. A. Doran will run the local office until a successor is named.

Liquor Returned to Haas Estate Trust After Tenure in Government Store
Barrels and cases of whiskey belonging to the Chas Haas estate were returned to the West Englewood Trust and Savings Bank after being stored in the Sibley warehouse. In 1928 the government sought destruction of the watered liquor, but Judge Alschuler ruled the property remained the owners’ and potable despite tampering.
