A Navy Gunners Mate1st Class Carl Bogenschneider writes from May 10 1943 praising South Holland residents for kindness via the Chamber of Commerce and memorial gifts. He plans to move soon but cherishes the village and hopes for its protection and return someday.
On Friday May 14 at 8 PM the OCD calls a public South Holland village hall gathering. All enrolled Civilian Defense workers and residents within Vincennes road to 147th street Torrence avenue area should attend to prepare for an air raid drill. Bring relatives neighbors and friends to aid on the home front.
Residents of South Holland and Phoenix invited to a 1 to 4 p.m. chest clinic at the South Holland Health Center on May 21. Dr. Julius N. Novak, Medical Director of The Tuberculosis Institute of Chicago and Cook County, leads examinations. The event supports the Early Diagnosis Campaign to detect and arrest tuberculosis amid wartime stresses.
The Calumet District Christian Endeavor convenes at First Reformed Church South Holland with Dr Harold Lundquist Moody Bible Institute to speak at 7 30 Thursday May 20. The Riv erside community elects officers and a new board while a last scrap drive is set for Roosevelt school May 20 21.
On furlough Henry H. Anker Jr. was operated on Saturday May 8 at Ingalls Memorial hospital and is reported to be doing very well. The procedure was an appendectomy.
