Son Finds Father Dead in Garage in South Holland

An inquest into the death of Teven Stomp 16088 Marion Dove South Holland was held Monday at 1 o clock in a Chicago funeral home. He is survived by wife Helen and three children Carolyn Katherine and Robert. Robert discovered his father’s body in the family automobile in the garage with the ignition on and the battery dead. The gas tank was empty and Stomp had not been heard from since leaving a neighbor’s house Wednesday morning.

St Francis Auxiliary Pantry Shower Announcement

St Francis Hospital Auxiliary held a meeting on Monday April 4 at 1 pm. The highlight was the annual pantry shower for the Sisters of the hospital. Members were asked to bring jelly jam or similar for the pantry shelf. Plans were discussed for the May card party and officers meet at 11 am the same day.

Thornton Township to Seek New Town Hall Without Tax Increase

Thornton Township Supervisor William H. Winterhoff announced the Town Board of Auditors will seek electors' approval next week to build a municipal town hall funded from on hand and future township collector excess tax commissions. About 1500000 could be available now to consolidate offices under one roof, saving rents of over 600 monthly.

Dolton Immanuel Church Confirms 1960 Class

The 1960 confirmation class from Immanuel United Church of Christ, Grant and Sheridan Streets Dolton, will be presented at the 10 45 a m service on Sunday April 3. Consecration Services At Sandridge Methodist Church

Sandridge Methodist Church in Dalton will hold consecration services April 2 and 3 in its enlarged building. A banquet opens Saturday at 6:30 pm, with a historical sketch by the Church School and sermons by Rev. Paul W. Protzel and Dr. Frank L. Countryman. The event features youth choirs, participation by former pastor Rev. Ray Kelley, and an adult choir. The public is invited. refreshments follow. The church shows 110 years of worship, with sanctuary capacity up to 275, added classrooms, a larger basement and a new kitchen.

Village Officers Hear Facts On State Gas Tax

Officials from Riverdale Dalton South Holland and nearby villages met to learn how motor fuel tax money is spent and to hear about state grants for local road construction. William Dutelle, Springfield engineer in charge, spoke at the South Holland meeting arranged by RB W Robinson & Associates. Riverdale Chief Attends Traffic Safety Meeting

Riverdale Chief of Police Charles Cook attended the Ali nois Division of Traffic Safety meeting on Wednesday March 16 at the Oak Park club. The session was part of 13 regional meetings for Gary William G Stratton highway safety program to boost Illinois Vehicle Safety Check and Slow Down and I Live campaigns with participation from Cook County communities. Chief Cook invited two Riverdale civic leaders to accompany him.

Winterhoff resigns as Cook County Supervisors chief

William H. Winterhoff resigns after 19 years as president of the Cook County Supervisors Association to lead the Illinois association. He serves Thornton Township and lives in Lansing and will be succeeded by Mike Guglielmucci, Calumet Township supervisor, formerly vice president.

Riverdale Posts School Zone Speed Signs

Frank Mraz public works head told the March 22 meeting that speed signs were posted in Riverdale school zones: 35 mph from Wentworth Ave to Halsted St and 20 mph at 134th and Wentworth Ave. He noted blacktop repairs on the south side of 144th and Stewart to State St.

Waterman School Burglarized in South Holland

South Holland police report a March 19 burglary at Waterman School located at 154th and Minerva. The janitor on duty until 8 20 p m on March 19 found keys on the secretary’s desk and desks pried open after entry through broken 7th and 8th grade windows. A small amount of money was stolen from the secretary’s office the principal’s office and the Coca Cola machine.

Permit Request to Erect Riverdale Machine Shop Building

At a March 8 meeting the Village of Riverdale board considered Leo S. Bell's request to build a 60 by 80 foot shop for a machine shop and screw machine business on his property. Water and sewer would connect to Hale and Hunters outlets on 140th Street Peachine. A motion carried to have the village attorney take steps to grant a permit.
