Calumet River Swing Bridges Open For First Spring Turn

A pile driver from South Chicago began work on the Calumet River swing bridges as they resumed operation this spring. The vessel moved upriver to Halsted Street for temporary repairs on the old bridge closed to traffic for weeks. Ownership is shared by the City of Chicago Calumet Township and the Village of Riverdale with the village holding one half and the city and township each a quarter.

Mrs Dose Dies After 30 Years In Dalton Store

Mrs Margaret Dose aged 80 years 9 months 8 days passed away Friday March 15 in Dalton. Born in Halstein Germany in 1887 she emigrated with husband Hans Dose to America in 1871. He died in 1891. She leaves grandchildren Ella and Walter Pohlers. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon by Rev H Wind with burial at Oakland Cemetery.

Old Soldier Dies. Riverdale Civil War Vet Passes

Tenes Benschop of near Globe died Thursday morning March 21 1918. Funeral Monday at 1 30 at his late residence. A Civil War veteran and member of G W Spencer Post 489 G A R of Riverdale. His death leaves only four members of Spencer Post.
