Dolton Board Rejects Soft Drink License for Tony Paulanski

Dolton board meets to consider a new sewer plan covering Shepard subdivisions and a public hearing is scheduled for March 28. The panel denies Tony Paulanski a soft drink parlor license at Chicago and 144th streets after prior incidents linked to the site. The meeting also discusses lighting poles, sewer territory changes, and an amended license fee ordinance to be printed in The Pointer.

Fred Wiegert, badly injured by a skidding motorcycle weeks ago, has recovered enough to leave Cook County hospital. Mrs. Lorenz, Haney billing operator, has been off duty several days due to her mother's Chicago death. E. E. Laking, head of the air brake service, visited Yard Center from Danville this week. Mrs. B. S. Odle, wife of Coal Chutes foreman, underwent surgery at Ingalls Memorial Harvey for appendicitis and gall stones and is reported doing well.

New Convent to Rise on St. Marys Church Property

Ground will be broken this week for a two story brick convent 40 by 90 feet 18 rooms on St. Marys Church property in Riverdale. Sisters of Christian Charity who run the parochial school will occupy the building once completed with cPRiy Thuilen as contractor.

Pioneer Matron Helen Buchler Dies After Long Illness

Helen Verhoeven Buchler of Riverdale died at home after a yearlong illness. She lived at 13768 Leyden Avenue for 46 years and spent weeks at St Francis hospital Blue Island. She leaves nine children five surviving relatives and was a founder of St Marys church in the area. Her funeral was held March 15 at St Marys with interment in St Josephs cemetery Hammond.

Dolton Boys Arrested in Chrysler Theft Case

Dolton police chief Fred Klaege announced that Russell Baldwin aged 17 and Robert Strassenberg aged 15 were arrested in Danville Illinois on a charge of stealing a Chrysler car in Watseka from in front of a church. The youths, parolees from Juvenile Court, traveled by C E I freight to Watseka and have a history of petty thefts and gym article burglaries. They remain jailed and will be bound over to the Danville grand jury.

Dillner's Pavilion Demolished At Culver Lakefront

After 35 years of dances picnics meetings and parties the Dillner family tears down Dillner's Pavilion once a social hub on Lake Maxinkuckee Culver Indiana. The building erected in 1892 hosted politicians and community events and may be sold with land to be used for two bungalows on the lakefront.
