Train wreck stops eastbound line near Blue Island Road
A vandal damaged the Panhandle line by throwing a heavy draw bar onto the eastbound Pennsylvania tracks near Blue Island road west of iverdale Saturday night. An extra passenger train struck the obstruction around 10 o clock, was derailed but repair crews cleared the wreck and resumed service soon after. Detectives are pursuing the guilty party.

Editor's Son Kilmer W. Volp Fatally Injured in Train Incident
Kilmer W Volp 16, son of Ed and Mrs Volp of Blue Island, died Saturday March 5 after a delay at home caused him and a companion to hurry onto a moving train. He had just left his home to ride to Bur Vak avenue. He was a grammar school graduate and had two years of high school, employed by KE Bronson & Co. Blue Island. The family expresses condolences to the bereaved parents.
