Big Power Plant Unit Two Construction Begins at State Line
The State Line generating plant on Lake Michigan near the Illinois Indiana line begins building the second unit. Herlihy Mid-Continent Co. awards contracts to expand capacity, with a total investment projected at 35,000,000 upon completion. The new unit aims for 165,000 kilowatts output and 272,302 square feet in a brick and steel structure designed by Graham, Anderson, Probst & White. The full plant spans eighty acres and will employ a 353,000,000 investment when finished. Chicago District Generating Co. is owned by Commonwealth Edison, Public Service Co of Northern Illinois, Northern Indiana Public Service Co, and Interstate Public Service Co, which have a fifty-year power-output contract for the station.
