Fire Destroys I C Platform at Wildwood
On a Tuesday evening residents near the Illinois Central tracks observed flames and black smoke at 127th Street and the I C tracks. The Illinois Central platform at Wildwood burned, likely from sparks from a passing train, with three Chicago fire trucks extinguishing the blaze and passenger trains delayed about forty minutes. Earlier, the Dalton fire department battled a prairie fire at 147th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue and a straw stack blaze nearby.

Charles H Smythe a former Dolton president died March 5 at his son Ray’s Chicago home after a yearlong decline. Born April 3 1861 in South Haven Kansas he married Elizabeth Lewis in 1887. He served Dolton as trustee 1914 22 village president 1923 24 and collector two years. He leaves two sons and two granddaughters.

Reductions in electric rates for residential and commercial customers of the Public Service Company of Northern Illinois are announced by Illinois Commerce Commission chairman James M. Slattery. Total annual savings reach about 1.14 million dollars with two cuts. April 1 for stores offices and small business and June 1 for households.
