Dolton Carnival Lights Up Holiday Weekend
Dolton's 15th annual summer carnival sponsored by the volunteer fire department runs through July 4 at Dolton Park. Water fights between local and surrounding suburb departments highlight evenings with pumpers spraying water and a ball-crossing contest. Parade on the 4th features marching bands, floats, and the Chicago Fire Department band. Prizes include two 1960 automobiles and a fireworks display. Proceeds fund new fire department gear.

Holland to Share Cost of Hall Improvement
South Holland village officials agreed to fund part of the estimated 2900 dollar off site improvements for the Thornton Township hall project. The package covers paving on Wausau Avenue to accommodate firefighting equipment and a second fire lane on 163rd street, plus a sewer line along 168th street for future development. The township will own the hall housing supervisors and clerks, with a total project cost around 220000 dollars offset by development proceeds. Street lighting costs will be covered by the township.
