Village Board Hears Oil Street Plan and Public Works

The Riverdale board met in regular session with President Zornow presiding. Trustees discussed oiling graded streets to prevent erosion, planking repairs at several crossings, and installing a street light at 142nd Street and Union Avenue in Ivanhoe. A thistle commissioner was appointed for two weeks. Water concerns noted improper Harvey main usage and overtime pumping to maintain supply.

Reach Seventh Milestone as American Legion Post holds anniversary

Paul Gall Post of the American Legion celebrated its seventh anniversary on Tuesday evening and hosted visiting Legionaires from district posts. Captain John Hartman, national Rehabilitation Committee secretary, spoke on veterans service work and shared firsthand insights from wartime organizing. Lester Benson of Illinois spoke on unpreparedness costs shown by 1917 figures. Thomas Taylor praised Poorman as a strong candidate, while Commander Raymond Baumgartner turned over the gavel to District Commander Al Boyle who served as toastmaster.

Cook County received bids Friday for eight miles of pavement including Devon avenue from Tossvilla to McCormick boulevard East End avenue in Steger from Steger to twenty third street Southwest highway from ninety third street and Minerva avenue to eighty seventh street and Crawford avenue Indiana avenue from 147th street to about 185th street and a half mile on River road north of the Chicago and North Western tracks.

Muller marks 25 years in Riverdale grocery business

On Monday June 18 John A Muller celebrates a quarter century in groceries in Riverdale. He opened a store at 18355 Indiana Avenue on June 18 1908 and ran there until two years ago when the old building was torn down for a new market. He will distribute souvenirs to customers in honor of the anniversary.

Robbery in Riverdale Targets Louis Albrecht by Two Suspects

Last Wednesday night about 12 05 Louis Albrecht was robbed by two youths in a Chevrolet coupe parked opposite The Pointer office. A gun was leveled and about 288 taken. They forced him to ride then dumped him at Grant Bros Machine Shop. Unclear if connected to other local concerns.

Death of Charles Haas of Blue Island fame

Charles Haas 70 longtime owner of the Haas restaurant at Blue Island died Friday at Municipal hospital Munich Germany while in Europe seeking health treatment. He was reputed Blue Island’s wealthiest man and earlier ran a saloon at the corner of Western avenue and Vermont street. Remains will be returned to Cleveland Ohio for interment beside his wife.
