Dolton Civic Association plans Festival Day at Dolton Park on June 12 with Little League game, concert, band, Beauty Queen contest, games, races, and a ceremonial dance. Nike display, food at 10 cents, and Queen of the Fire Department parade entries invited. Scout Troop 374 to show camping gear and perform ceremonial dance after sundown. Dolton hosting events to mark its tenth anniversary.

The office of Walter Haines, Thornton Township Collector, reports 1959 tax bills will arrive in July. One payment will be due in August with taxes paid in full then. The penalty date is Sept 1 1960 and no split installments will be allowed as in previous years.

Shrimp Boil Benefit For Krone Children At Izaak Walton Dolton

Honorary Doctor of Laws for Charles F. Duggan at Loras College
Charles F. Duggan, retired vice president of the Illinois Central Railroad, will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws from Loras College Dubuque during June 5 commencement. He began with the Illinois Central in 1916 in Dubuque and later led the Iowa Division 1940 to 1945, becoming vice president of operations in 1945 until his 1953 retirement. He resides with Mrs. Duggan at Riverdale Illinois.

South Holland Mayor Vander Giessen Dies After Battle
Henry J. Vander Giessen mayor of South Holland died at Passavant Hospital on June 4 from burns from a fire and gasoline explosion on April 26. He was 45. Funeral services were held June 8 at First Reformed Church with interment at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Survivors include wife Vivian, two daughters Patricia Ann and Denne, and son Glenn. a son John Lee preceded him in death in 1945. He lived in South Holland all his life, worked as an onion grower and shipper, and held multiple civic roles including Lyons club member and school board member. He led village growth as mayor and the new village hall was built under his direction. Messages of condolence came from officials in Dalton and Riverdale.
