After a honeymoon the couple will reside at 15301 State street South Holland. The bridegroom served four years and four months in the U S Army with two and a half years overseas in the 41st Armored Infantry Hell on Wheels and now holds an honorable discharge with 115 points.
The Gouwens family executive committee has decided there will be no reunion this year due to traveling restrictions and many members' commitments to war work. Family mood favors restraint until servicemen and women can gather with kin.
Pvt. Howard Anker son of Mr and Mrs Peter Anker 161 Cottage Grove Ave was awarded the Expert Infantryman badge by order of Major General T G Hearn at Camp Wheeler Ga Infantry Replacement Training center He was inducted February and is now completing infantry basic training with Company 8 7th Battalion here
Harold C Bultema seaman second class aboard the USS Grayson receives mention for the destroyers combat record from Guadalcanal to Iwo Jima. The Grayson helped sink a submarine down eight enemy planes and aided radar and coastal positions. The ship supported the Tokyo raid and carried survivors during campaigns at Vella Lavella, the Marshalls, Palau, Mindanao, Samar and Negros.
