Harbor Start Urged for Lake Calumet by Civic Leaders
A non partisan delegation led by Alderman Cross Woodhull Govier and Guernsey and other Calumet district leaders urged Mayor Dever to back an ordinance allowing the Sanitary District to build Lake Calumet harbor. They cited 1921 state law enabling either entity to build the harbor with district taxing power, noting the city cannot finance it soon and the district is able. President Healy and Chief Engineer Kelly said they can proceed if required. Local longstanding advocates see a real chance after fifteen years of effort.
