Mooney Commended for Field Commission in Italy
John H. Mooney was commissioned a second lieutenant on the battlefield in Italy on December 27 while serving in a Railway Operations battalion. At 39, he is among the older new officers and had previously earned a staff sergeant’s rating overseas. He formerly worked 17 years for the Indiana Harbor Belt railroad and lives in Riverdale, with his wife Fern and their 21 month old son John Jr. Their home state ties include Reno and Harvey addresses. Meanwhile a new policy allows induction of essential industry workers who leave such work for military service, waiving standard physicals for limited service.
