Captain M Robert Weidner recently arrived home on leave from the India China Wing of the Air Transport Command where he served as a flight surgeon. He notified his wife Arlene of his safe arrival from Miami and earlier joined the service in 1942, going overseas in 1943. The India China Wing earned a presidential citation for its missions delivering personnel and supplies into inland China.

Lt. (j.g.) James H. Templin, son of Chicago Heights residents, former Berger school principal in Dalton, received the Navy Commendation Ribbon at a Hawaii ceremony on January 14. The citation lauds his leadership under enemy fire on May 21, 1944, aiding his ship’s survival while serving as staff communications and executive officer aboard a LIST. He enlisted in 1942, trained at Norfolk and with the Seabees, and was commissioned in 1943 after graduating honors from Harvard University.

Two Local Youths Reported Missing in Action on Western Front
War Department informs families that Set. John W. Burch and Pfc. Arthur Ganser have gone missing in the Luxembourg sector since December 17 and 20 respectively. Burch, a 1938 Thornton Township grad, served with the 60th Armored Infantry Division. Ganser trained at Fort Lewis and Camp Breckenridge before overseas duty with the Sixth Armored Infantry.
