Emergency Plan Adopted to Conserve Truck Tires
The Chicago district adopts an emergency plan for conserving heavy duty truck tires due to a critical shortage. The plan authorizes rationing of tires from January quotas for motor carriers to substitute running tires that will be removed and recapped. Participating counties include Cook DuPage Kane Lake and McHenry in Illinois and Lake Indiana. Recapped tires go back into service while an equal number of recappable tires are removed and recapped each week. Frank T. Corcoran and Marion W. Isbell announced the plan with a committee of motor carriers and representatives.
