Draft Boards Ready to Sign 10 Million Men for Service

The new draft calls for 10,000,000 men aged 20 to 45 to be classified for military service. Registration is set for Monday February 16 for those under 45 and not yet past their birthday. Four Are Injured in Week End Crashes

Two passengers were seriously hurt when a car driven by Ira J. Roberts lost control at Main street and Lincoln avenue. Joseph Wesolak and Robert Judd, both Chicago residents, were hospitalized with head and wrist injuries after the crash. A second accident at 144th street and Greenwood road left Andrew Olson with leg injuries. Carl Butler's car hit a tree after being sideswiped by a truck driven by Marshell Van Schouwen who said he swerved to avoid a pedestrian. Dorothy Nordhoff, riding with Orland David, sustained facial cuts after a vehicle skidded into a tree near 144th street on Halsted.

Dolton Residents Urged to Enroll in Defense Service

Dolton Civilian Defense Council held a meeting led by Earl F. Slaughter. Many residents misunderstood the program, thinking enrollment assigns metro area duty. officials say duties stay within Dolton unless extreme emergency. Enrollees to obtain questionnaires at the village hall Trook's barber shop or from police. Both men and women urged to sign to determine best suited duties, with a limited number of boys 14+ needed as messengers.

Dolton Increases Vehicle License Fees to Five Dollars

The Village of Dolton announces vehicle licenses rise to five dollars effective February 1. The prior charge was three dollars. Licenses can be purchased at the Village Clerk’s office.

Red Cross Appeals to Local Helpers for War Relief

Local residents are urged to donate to the American Red Cross war relief fund. Mrs. Pauline Slaughter, chairwoman, says contributions may be left at her home 13911 Lincoln Avenue Dalton or mailed. Red Cross materials will be sent by return mail. National leaders set a 50 million dollar goal to expand services for the armed forces and home nursing, first aid, disaster preparedness, garments and surgical dressings, and care for civilians affected by bombing or sabotage.

The annual drive to raise funds against infantile paralysis is underway in Cook County and other communities. In Cook County the effort is led by Celebration of the President's Birth, with the county committee directing the day. Riverdale chairs are Peter J.
