Villages Organize Civilian Defense Councils in Suburbs

Dolton and Riverdale move to unite Civilian Defense efforts as officials appoint coordinators and volunteer workers. The plan follows national guidelines with tire restrictions and emergency divisions mapping fire police medical and welfare roles in the defense strategy.

Evening Defense Classes Begin Second Semester

Registration for the second semester of the Thornton Township High School evening school in Harvey will be held Monday evening, Jan. 26, from seven to nine. Courses include machine shop, mechanical drawing, cooking, sewing, home nursing, business English and speech, Spanish, mathematics, bookkeeping, typing, shorthand, and office machines. The term runs fifteen weeks with a small tuition charge.

Red Cross Seeks Volunteers for War Effort in Dolton

The American Red Cross requests sewing and knitting help to meet wartime demands. Volunteers may contact Dolton chairwoman Mrs. H. W. Propper Favored in Two Relief Ruling

Illinois Supreme Court upholds Cook County ruling that Thornton township Supervisor Propper need not submit relief bills to the town board of auditors for semi monthly audits. Propper says the decision vindicates his stance amid a long dispute with Winterhoff and others over relief practices and costs to taxpayers.

Mrs Kern Recovers After Major Operation At Ingalls Memorial

Mrs Conrad Kern, aged 82, of 82 East 136th Street Riverdale, underwent a major operation on Saturday January 10 at Ingalls Memorial hospital in Harvey and is showing steady progress toward ward recovery.

1942 Officers of W. R. C. Installed

The W. G. Spencer Woman's Relief Corps 279 installed 1942 officers led by president Adele Stutzriem and senior vice president Jennie OConner. Installing officers included Meta Schroder and Ida Matz. Guests from nearby corps attended and a light lunch followed. The next meeting is Friday January 23 with hostesses named Rampke, Peacock, Horn, and Struven.

Voters urged to register after address changes

Residents who moved or will turn 21 by the next election must re register at the Village Clerk's office to be eligible for the Spring primary or Fall election. Registration closes January 20 and reopens May 1.

Village of Dalton urges waste paper conservation

Proclamation urges all residents to avoid burning old newspapers boxes magazines and waste paper to prevent paperboard shortages for defense shipments. Seven Injured in New Outbreak of Motor Accidents

A string of crashes injures seven people across Dolton Riverdale and nearby towns. Mrs. Marion Ferris of Chicago suffered severe scalp lacerations and possible skull fracture after a hit and run on Lincoln avenue. Others include Walter Ungelug of Dolton who rolled his car avoiding a dog, and several Halsted street collisions in Riverdale and surrounding areas with multiple injuries and hospitalizations.

Aviation Cadet Propper Receives Promotion at Kelly Field

Aviation Cadet William Propper, son of Henry Propper, has been appointed Cadet Major and Adjutant of 1st Group at the Air Corps Replacement Training Center Kelly Field Texas.
