Riverdale village president Eduard L Ripley anticipates the completion of the new municipal building on 142nd and Tracy in summer 1961. The project aims to improve police and fire protection, street lighting, and traffic flow while funding permits.
St Jude Parish South Holland hosts the South District of the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women for its annual winter meeting on January 25 at 8 p.m. Reverend James E. Naughton welcomes delegates. Msgr. Thomas J. Fitzgerald and Rev James J. Murtaugh attend as special guests. District officers and committee chairs present progress reports on eight ACCW committees.
The Dolton village board discussed a petition from Lincolnway Corporation to rezone three acres at Lincoln and Cottage Grove to R-6 for 100 apartments, 71 one bedroom and 20 two bedroom, with 140 parking spaces and street improvements. The plan goes to the planning commission tonight, then to the zoning board of appeals before final village action.
The South Holland village board authorized Holland Board to contract Hulett Corporation to install two sanitary sewers and a cross connection at the Caltynet River on State from South Holland. The project costs about 2508.10 and aims to reduce river pollution.
Riverdale Village Board session Tuesday includes a presentation of a 50 star flag to President Ed Ripley by Mrs. Mary Ferguson of Delton age 91 who recited Our Flag to attentive residents. A residents petition for rodent action prompts review of waste disposal and factory rat sources with plans to obtain extermination pamphlets from Cook County Health Director Steve Nick.

Local Cerebral Palsy Week mobilizes women chairmen Mrs Leland Halleck Mrs Robert Gore and Mrs Walter Winters guiding a door to door appeal in Dolton Riverdale and South Holland. Campaign aims to raise 1500 from each Tr-Cities area with captains listed and events on January 14 in Dolton Riverdale and January 14 in South Holland. Riverdale fire occurred January 7 at 2:25 am involving a car owned by Kenny Putt. Cook County Vegetable Growers School set for January 17 at the South Holland Municipal Building with topics on pests weeds soil and farm labor.
Illinois state police Blue Island report that specially equipped patrol trucks from the highway department will patrol the Calumet Ringery Expressway around the clock to assist motorists after accidents. The units will have radio contact, red lights, tools, flares and winches, with towing and mechanical aid provided by private garages. Lt Georgantas expects full operation by month’s end.
