Harvey Officer Wounded in Hold Up by Bandit
Policeman Joseph LaPointe of Harvey, 29, was wounded three times while stopping an attempted robbery after helping a young woman start her car near 149th and Loomis. The assailant, Tony Clark, fled. Clark was later arrested, and LaPointe remained in hospital recovering.

Dolton Home Damaged By Christmas Tree Fire
Dolton firemen answered a January 1 blaze at Frank Miller’s residence 13925 Park Avenue when a Christmas tree ignited as he tried to turn on lights by hooking an extension cord. The fire, sparked by a match and cotton near the base, caused about 200 in damage. Miller suffered minor burns and singed hair while extinguishing the flames.

Mother Seized by 2 Youths in Christmas Theft Attempt
Mrs. George Gleim and her 15 year old son George Jr were followed near their 186th Place home after a Christmas light purchase. Two young men grabbed her eyes and mouth to prevent screams. they fled when no purse was found. Detectives from Kensington police are investigating. Mrs Gleim could not identify the assailants beyond noting they were young men from the vicinity.

Survived by son John Schmidt and daughter Marie Pracht, both of Riverdale. Funeral at Bachmann Funeral Home to St Mary’s Church officiated by Rev George J Alexander. Interment St Benedict’s Cemetery Blue Island.
