Carlyle Struven Tie The Knot At St Dorothy’s Rectory

The couple Rita Carlyle and Harry Struven were wed by Rev Father Sheridan at St Dorothy’s rectory on Sunday afternoon December 30. Rita is from Rhodes avenue Riverdale and Harry from Lincoln avenue Dolton. Attendants were Ellen Squires and Thomas Kinney. A wedding dinner followed at the bride’s home with close relatives.

Franks Mabel Franke Wed Robert Gerlich in New Year Union

Mabel Franke daughter of Mr and Mrs William Franke married Robert Gerlich son of Mr and Mrs Frank Gerlich of Chicago on New Year’s Eve in a Methodist parsonage ceremony conducted by Rev Coleman. The couple to reside at 14250 Grant Street Dolton.

Botkin Aiello Couple Wed in Chicago Reception Held

Frank Aiello son of Mr and Mrs Sarfina Aiello and Miss Blanche Botkin were married December 29 in Chicago. A reception followed at the groom s home with over 150 relatives and friends attending. The groom distributes daily papers for the Cohen agency in Riverdale and is wished happiness by The Pointer editors.

Death of Benjamin Phillips at Riverdale Home

Benjamin Phillips aged 75 and a half died suddenly of a heart attack at his Riverdale home on Wednesday January 2 at 2 45 p m. He leaves his wife Catherine a son Frank R Phillips a daughter Louise Macher of Chicago and five grandchildren. He belonged to the National Assurance Company and the Holy Name Society of St Marys church. Funeral services will be held Saturday January 6 at 9 00 a m at the home and 9 30 a m at St Marys church conducted by Rev D A Diederich interment in St Marys cemetery 1st and Kedzie avenue Chicago. The Italy Name Society will meet at St Marys school hall tonight at 7 15 p m to attend the wake.

Twenty six Cook county crossings get warning signals

The Illinois commerce commission chairman announces a list of twenty six dangerous crossings in Cook county designated for warning lights and bells. The project covers 275 crossings statewide with signals installed by engineers for the commission the state highway department and thirty five railroads. Two crossings are in Riverdale and Dolton as both village boards had pressed for protection at 138th street and Indiana avenue.

Missionaries John Stam and Elizabeth Stam Murdered in China

Rev. John Stam and wife Elizabeth Stam, American missionaries, were killed by Chinese bandits near Tsingteh. Their three month old baby Priscilla was found alive by a Chinese pastor in a deserted house. The Stams had frequented Riverdale Open Bible Church at 79 Fast 187th Street, where Stams preached on several occasions.
