Dalton Road Hears Clayhole Closed to Village Dumping

The Piseateers Inc a Blue Island sportsmen club leases the abandoned Illinois Brick clayhole at Main and Cottage Grove until Dec 31 1947 as dumping rights end for the village. The board will invite brick company and club reps to discuss future arrangements and a new dumping location if needed. Plans to upgrade Irving Ave and 144th St from Greenwood to Irving to be ready for potential federal labor release. Winter damage hits local streets with Indiana Ave and Sibley Blvd faults reported. state and county highway departments notified. A streetcar shelter at 138th and Leyden is requested. The fire department will be assisted for the 50th anniversary parade on July 4. Lions Club advised on shelter plans for bus users with council support.

Returned Soldier Urges More Blood Donors Worldwide

S/Sgt. John Biesboer, on a 21 day furlough after 27 months with the 12th Army Air Force ground crew, asks for universal type O blood donations to aid wounded troops. His brother Pvt. Peter E. Biesboer was wounded in France last August and is back in England. another brother, Pfc. Robert, serves at North Camp Hood, Texas. They are sons of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Biesboer of Dolton.

Mild condition noted for Mrs. Bertha Miller at hospital

Mrs. Bertha Miller of 14314 Lincoln Ave Dalton remains confined at In galls Memorial Hospital Harvey for observation since last Wednesday. Her condition is described as favorable. The Riverdale Girl Scout troop held a Valentine party Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Arthur R. Mosser in Ivanhoe.

Navigator Returns After 50 Missions

Lt Roy Messerschmidt arrives on a 21 day leave after completing fifty bombing missions as a navigator on a B 24 with the 15th Army Air Force. Overseas 11 months, he earned Air Medal with three Oak Leaf clusters and a presidential citation. He visited the Vatican, met the Pope, and carries a rosary blessed by Pius XI. He also holds a Roman Colosseum fragment and Michele bell from Capri, hoping for good luck. After leave he will spend weeks in a California rest camp before re assignment.

Ivanhoe PTA Founders Day Talk by District Director

Mrs. A C Jorn director of District 19 Illinois Congress of PTA will speak on Founder's Day at the Ivanhoe PTA on Wednesday Feb 21 at 3 pm in Roosevelt school. Past presidents and members are invited. Veteran of Leyte and Luzon Returns Home on Furlough

John W. Taylor son of Mr and Mrs E Carrarini of Dalton arrived home Thursday Feb 8 on a 21 day furlough after serving over seas in the South Pacific for two years He participated in the Leyte invasion with the 11th Airborne Division and also saw action on Luzon island.

Local Youth's Unit Cited in Italy for Distinguished Service

Pvt. Paul W. Schmidt Jr. of Dalton is part of the 2nd Battalion 168th Infantry Regiment known as the Rainbow. The unit, within the 34th Red Bull Division, received a Distinguished Unit Citation for seizing Cerraro and surrounding hills, warding off Hermann Goering counterattacks over eight days, under Lt. Gen. Mark W. Clark.

Railroad switchman injured after ice slip at Arcady Milling Yard

Edward H. Albrecht of Dalton slipped on ice at the Arcady Milling yards in Riverdale last Wednesday morning and fell under moving train cars. He freed himself, crawled to a shed, and was hospitalized at Ingalls Memorial in Harvey with injuries described as tor larges unknown.

Red Cross War Fund Drive Plans Set for March 1
