Col Bowen and Wildwood at the Chicago Fire era
The narrative recalls Col Bowen turning Wildwood into a social hub after losing his Madison street home in the Chicago fire. He improved gardens and greenhouses, built a riverfront dancing pavilion, and hosted the July 4 1878 anniversary event for Marquette with 500 guests. He also forced railroad bridges to be drawn by chartering a steamer to clear a passage. After his death the estate joined the Pullman holdings and Florence Pullman later ran Wildwood for working girls as a charitable rest home.
