Sugar Beets Tariff Cut Sparks Riverdale Meeting
Riverdale villagers debate proposed sugar beet price drop from six to five dollars per ton tied to tariff cuts next spring. Speakers from Pope Beet Sugar Works and Holland St. Louis Sugar Company present contract data and warn price declines could shutter beet plants. Members urge protest to Congressman Elect Gorman and Senator Cullom, forming a committee for resolutions. The annual meeting is set for January 11, 1913 at the Village Hall.
