Gustav Erickson aged 44 of Riverdale died Christmas Eve after a Sunday evening accident when struck by a passing car at 91st and State Street. Legion Wins Hair Raising One Point Victory Over Hammond Bordens
The American Legion edged the Hammond Bordens 88 to 87 at St Paul gym in a dramatic finish. Peacock sparked the rally with a late long shot after a fast double pass, giving the Legion the one point win as the ball neared the basket. The Bordens led 37-35 at one point and 87-84 late, with both teams exchanging tense plays and solid defense. Tragic Christmas Eve Crossings Fatal for Thompson Family
A hit and run at a Dolton grade crossing left George Thompson 56 and his wife Fannie dead and son Harold severely injured. Driver C A Berggren escaped with minor injuries as the car was dragged 200 feet under a northbound C E I train. The Thompsons were en route to Hammond to spend Christmas with daughter Elsie Heart. An inquest was held as authorities searched for the fleeing motorist.
