Fatal Pedestrian Crash Claims Gustav Erickson at 91st and State

Gustav Erickson aged 44 of Riverdale died Christmas Eve after a Sunday evening accident when struck by a passing car at 91st and State Street. He had undergone leg amputation at County hospital and died at 6:45. Survived by three sons, father, two sisters in Sweden. brother of Harold Erickson, war hero in hospital at Great Lakes. Funeral Monday at Phillips Chapel. Interment Oakhill Cemetery.

Inhalator Saves Life In Dixmoor Truck Incident

Three men in a Dixmoor truck were found dazed from engine exhaust fumes. Center man unconscious, given oxygen with an inhalator at Ingalls Memorial Hospital and recovered quickly. Victim named Joseph Wilson of Elmhurst. hospital discharge home Tuesday.

Legion Wins Hair Raising One Point Victory Over Hammond Bordens

The American Legion edged the Hammond Bordens 88 to 87 at St Paul gym in a dramatic finish. Peacock sparked the rally with a late long shot after a fast double pass, giving the Legion the one point win as the ball neared the basket. The Bordens led 37-35 at one point and 87-84 late, with both teams exchanging tense plays and solid defense. Next Sunday the Legion faces Acme or the Collegians from Chicago, while St Paul meets Palmer A C.

A banco party is planned to raise funds and money is placed in First Trust and Savings Bank for immediate relief. Elks Distribute Christmas Baskets to 12 Needy Families

The Harvey Elks Lodge handed out Christmas baskets to 12 needy families in Dalton and Riverdale. The committee has experience in this effort and aims to assemble over a hundred baskets containing ham flour lard potatoes sugar oleo beans syrup pancake mix coffee milk eggs corn peas oatmeal macaroni jam baking powder oranges candy and nuts.

Knights of Columbus Host Christmas Party at St Mary’s School

The Pinta Council Knights of Columbus held a Christmas party for neighborhood children at St Mary’s School Hall last Sunday evening. The spacious basement was crowded with children and parents as Santa distributed presents while Father Diederich called it the largest congregation he had seen in a long time.

Tragic Christmas Eve Crossings Fatal for Thompson Family

A hit and run at a Dolton grade crossing left George Thompson 56 and his wife Fannie dead and son Harold severely injured. Driver C A Berggren escaped with minor injuries as the car was dragged 200 feet under a northbound C E I train. The Thompsons were en route to Hammond to spend Christmas with daughter Elsie Heart. An inquest was held as authorities searched for the fleeing motorist.

Fenger High Commencement Speaker Named

Superintendent William J. Bogan will preside as the principal speaker at Fenger high school commencement next month. Ferdinand Zipf, assistant principal, said twenty-five other high schools sought Mr Bogan for midyear ceremonies. Workmen began installing a flicker light system at the 140th street Indiana avenue harbor crossing to improve safety.
