Indiana Health Board targets Calumet pollution with new bill

The Indiana State Board of Health served final notices to Calumet District cities and 300 industries ordering sewage and industrial waste treatment. A bill drafted by Dr. W. F. King imposes a 200 per day fine for violations and allows sanitary districts by county and third class cities. Cities like Whiting East Chicago Hammond Munster Robertsdale may form districts to enforce cleanup. The measure, backed by the state board, heads to the January Legislature.

Harvey meeting forms Clean Streams group for Little Calumet

A regional committee from Gary to Harvey met in Harvey city hall to organize a permanent body aimed at improving the Little Calumet River. Walter Haines was elected chairman with Kelly of Gary as vice chairman, Cooke of Harvey secretary, and DeYoung of South Holland treasurer.

Local Driver Crashes Vehicle Injuring Weimer on Michigan Ave

E A Weimer assistant station agent for the Pennsylvania Railroad was seriously bruised and cut after a collision on Michigan Avenue near 123rd Street last Sunday night. A driver cut in front of another car, sending both vehicles across the street before fleeing. Weimer was treated at Roseland Community Hospital and later released. The incident involved two wrecked cars and a third party.

Teachers Feed Poor Children At Riverdale School

Teachers at Pullman Branch Riverdale led by Mrs Ward Miss Ohlson Miss Scott and Mrs Pfoff have run a noonday lunch for about 15 children whose families cannot provide meals. County Board orders real estate reassessment to cut 1929 taxes
