Dolton Man Recounts 45 Years With South Shore
Leslie W. Hodgetts, coal traffic manager for the Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad, recalls a 1820s carload of a traveling menagerie on the line as he receives a 45 year service pin at a Michigan City dinner. He joined in 1916 and now notes coal sales shift toward industrial and utility shipments while the Burns Diten plant will use 10 000 carloads annually by 1982. Hodgetts, 70, says he has no retirement plans and enjoys work and travel with family and friends.
