Village Couple Win Top Prize in Christmas Decor Contest

Reuben and Mrs. Johnson of 14512 Normal won $50 for a department store style window scene with Santa at a desk and telephones, Mrs. Johnson in charge of switchboard. She has 80 dolls, crafts outfits, and has won first prize three times while her husband recovers from surgery. Second prize went to John and Mrs. Diehl, third to Leo and Mrs. Bolda.

Harvey YMCA Teen Council Sponsors Second Winter Weekend

The Harvey Memorial YMCA Teen Council hosts a three day New Year break from December 29 to January 1 inviting all high school students to register at the Harvey YMCA. Participants travel by chartered bus to a northern Tinos camp December 29 returning January 1 with a $30 member or $36 non member fee covering transport room and board and camp access. Students provide their own bedroll and optional ice skates.

Dalton Park District Faces Shortfall in Park Acreage

57 Acre Tract Set for Industrial Site in South Holland

South Holland officials adopted an ordinance to annex a 57 acre farm tract on the village southern boundary bordered by the C E T railroad 170th street State street and Thornton limits. The land now owned by Material Service Corp formerly Thornton property will become light industry friendly due to rail access toll road and expressways nearby.

Thomsen Named Dalton Fire Chief After Ripley Resigns

Paul Thomsen is named the new Fire Chief of Dalton to replace Paul Ripley who served three years. The appointment, approved December 26, becomes effective January 1, 1962, and Thomsen returns to the role after previously leading Dolton seven years earlier. He has been with the Dalton Volunteer Fire Department since 1941, a unit of six engineers and 44 volunteers.

Man Suffers Neck Injuries After Riverdale Crash

Louis Paganini of 15428 Dob son Dalton reported neck injuries after his car was rear ended at 138th and Wentworth on Wednesday afternoon December 20. He said his vehicle was stopped preparing to turn left when struck. Driver Josephine E. Torelli of 449 W 138th Street said she could not stop in time.

Water Works Bond Issue Faces Petition for Referendum

Nearly 1000 Dolton residents file a petition with the village clerk on December 14 seeking to repeal or delay a $1,341,000 Water Works and Sewage Revenue Bond ordinance approved November 14 and to submit the measure to voters. The action, backed by residents from Almar Meadows to Mahoneyville, targets financing for pumping, reservoir expansion, and water mains.

Man Dies On Way To Church In Chicago

Sacre 72 of 232 FB 136th St Chicago died Christmas Day after a sudden heart attack while walking to church. Wife Mary says he collapsed at 157th St and Leyden age. Born October 12 1889 in Yugoslavia he was a retired machine operator. Survived by wife, a son Charles Solomon of Chicago and three grandchildren. Funeral 9:30 am Thursday Dec 28 at St Mary’s Church.
