400 New Farm Customers for Public Service Co in 1944
Public Service Company of Northern Illinois added over 400 new farm customers in the first nine months of 1944. This lift pushed total farm and rural units served beyond 24,800 in the company’s 33 year history. Wartime WB regulations guided eligibility. The rural network expanded by about 50 miles to over 6,260 across 16 counties, with about 86 percent of farms now electrified. Average annual kilowatt hours per farm rose to 2,362, from 2,181 a year earlier, as electric work-saving equipment like brooders milking machines coolers stirrers warmers pumps and grinders aided production.
