Officials from Gary Hammond Harvey Blue Island South Holland Dalton and Riverdale plus hundreds of business leaders met in Harvey to form a joint group backing a barge canal from Burns Ditch Indiana to Blue Island via the Little Calumet River. Cook County Farms Lead In Nation For Onions And Crops

Cook county tops the nation in truck crop production and onion output with 85 percent of Illinois onions. The county also leads in onion sets and ranks high in dairy and cabbage production. The South Holland onion center and a 470 acre alfalfa field near Lansing Ford airport are noted. The Farm Bureau reports 3,350 farmers with average 67 acre holdings, and predicts Chicago may eventually spread into the county. offices are in Arlington Heights Blue Island with 844 members.

Hollywood Here 80 Acre Palos Park Movie Project

A Chicago and New York syndicate plans an 80 acre Hollywood in Palos Park with over one million dollars invested. The site at 86th Avenue and 131st Street will host 300 foot stages indoor takes location sites and surrounding film production buildings as the project moves toward operation.

Harvey leaders push plan to dig Calumet canal

Hammond and James Bates acting Mayor addressed the meeting and proposed a committee from each city and organization to form a permanent body promoting the digging of a canal. The canal would turn the Deep river headwaters from Burns Ditch into the Little Calumet, marking the first major effort on the Illinois side to develop the Little Calumet area.

Protests Filed Against 1929 Cook County Land Valuations

Branigar Bros led protests on 3458 Ivanhoe lots in Thornton township as part of wider complaints on 700000 parcels. Bridge A Bridge Over Calumet River Approved

A one billion dollar bridge over the Calumet River near 130th Street is authorized after a city council ordinance dis annexing part of the river area. The state will replace the temporary crossing, linking a widened highway from Cairo to Chicago and beyond. Harvey Post Office Site Chosen For New Federal Building

The Harvey News-Bee reports a decision on the site for a new post office and federal building. Government investigators favor the northeast corner of 155th Street and Center Avenue as first choice, with the present location as second.
