Red Cross Blood Center Closes After Surrender
The Chicago Red Cross Blood Donor Services center ceased operation August 15 following Japan's surrender. Since February 1942 it supplied Pacific and European areas with plasma and whole blood, aiding over thirteen million pints nationally and 642,892 pints from Chicago. The chapter thanks the public and media for helping meet surgeon general quotas.

Ripley Brothers Return Home On Leave From War Duty
Lt Lorenz Ripley ends thirty day leave with his family in Boston after arriving July 29 from the European Theatre. He served with an artillery battalion overseas since last November and will report to Fort Bragg on September 3. His brother Lt Robert Ripley, formerly with the 158th Engineers Battalion, is now with an Army engineers forestry company supervising tree felling by German prisoners in Bavarian forests for lumber. A third brother, Donald Ripley, FL C, served aboard a motor torpedo boat in the South Pacific.
