Pfc Robert Grandmaison Awarded Bronze Star for Valor Near Altheim
Pfc Robert J Grandmaison of the 7th Infantry Division earned the Bronze Star for valorous action on 16 March 1945 near Altheim Germany. He and a bazooka team crawled to engage an enemy position, firing phosphorous rounds that silenced a machine gun and caused German forces to flee. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Peter Grandmaison of Dolton Illinois and is married with a son and a daughter.

The Thornton Township high school in Harvey offers an evening school with over a dozen high school and junior college subjects starting September 17. Airman Returns From 85 B-29 Raids Over Japan
Lt. William B. Wallace son of Mr and Mrs Wilfred Wallace of Ivanhoe is on a 30 day home leave after 85 Superfortress raids over Japan in nine months. He flew the first B-29 bombing raid on Tokyo from the Marianas last Thanksgiving. He holds the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters. He will report to the San Antonio air base after his leave. his wife Eleanor of Chicago accompanies him.
