War Fund chairmen named for Dolton and Riverdale drive

C J Zemrowski names Dolton chair Mrs Earl F Slaughter and Riverdale chair Mrs Arthur C Mullen to lead the National War Fund drive set to start October 1 with a southern Cook County quota of 112 850. Suburban regions plan local chests and charities totaling about 65 000 while the drive marks the last national appeal for war relief funds through December 31 1946.

Pfc Robert Grandmaison Awarded Bronze Star for Valor Near Altheim

Pfc Robert J Grandmaison of the 7th Infantry Division earned the Bronze Star for valorous action on 16 March 1945 near Altheim Germany. He and a bazooka team crawled to engage an enemy position, firing phosphorous rounds that silenced a machine gun and caused German forces to flee. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Peter Grandmaison of Dolton Illinois and is married with a son and a daughter.

Night Study At UHS Details Evening Classes At Thornton Township High

The Thornton Township high school in Harvey offers an evening school with over a dozen high school and junior college subjects starting September 17. Courses cover accounting chemistry English composition literature engineering drawing physics and practical office and shop subjects. Credit toward graduation is possible for adults and some college entrance credit may be earned. Class size requires at least fifteen pupils and registration runs September 4 6 6 10 11 12 13 1945 in office 108B from 6 30 to 9 30 pm.

An organizational meeting for the Dalton-Riverdale Girl Scout Council finance drive will be held Thursday September 6 at 8 p.m. in Riverdale village hall. Local Ration Boards Merge at Harvey in Chicago Suburb

The War Price and Rationing Boards in Riverdale, Dalton, and South Holland will merge with Harvey and nearby towns Hazel Crest Phoenix and Dixmoor by September 30 as part of a regional consolidation. James F. Riley of the OPA notes the end of wartime programs makes the change expedient. 133 boards remain in the Chicago metropolitan area.

Airman Returns From 85 B-29 Raids Over Japan

Lt. William B. Wallace son of Mr and Mrs Wilfred Wallace of Ivanhoe is on a 30 day home leave after 85 Superfortress raids over Japan in nine months. He flew the first B-29 bombing raid on Tokyo from the Marianas last Thanksgiving. He holds the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters. He will report to the San Antonio air base after his leave. his wife Eleanor of Chicago accompanies him.

District 148 Set to Open Sept 5 with New Faculty

District No 148 announces opening on September 5 at 9:00 a.m. Enrollment and book rental fees will be collected. First graders not registered in May may register September 4 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Parents must provide birth or baptism records and a doctor’s physical exam before enrollment. Faculty lists by school are provided along with a bus schedule starting September 5 detailing routes and stop points.
