Mrs Henry Madderom Dies at 36 in Roseland

Mrs Henry Madderom aged 36 passed away Friday August 8. Maiden name Tina Van Buren daughter of Floris Van Buren she married Henry Madderom on September 10 1919. Survived by husband father six sisters and two brothers. Funeral at home 1:30 then at First Reformed church Roseland 2:00 conducted by Rev Hagen. Interment Mt Greenwood.

Bach Brothers Closes as Receivership Ends Era

One of the community’s oldest retailers, Bach Brothers clothing at 115th Street and Michigan Avenue, went into bankruptcy and exited the market after 30 years. Founded by Sam Bach with Leopold and Joe, Joe departed in 1909, and the firm once led local advertising but declined in recent years.

Riverdale Sealed Bids Sought for Coal Delivery

Coffee Shortage Leads to Arrest of Store Manager

D. R. Paul manager of National Tea Co. at 6837 Hohman Street Hammond was arrested on a complaint by E. E. Brandenburg for short-weight under state weights and measures law. A 12 ounce coffee package weighed four ounces less than a pound across two drugstore scales, with Brandenburg citing prior butter shortages.

Postcard From Berlin Shows German Toasting Scene

The Pointer reports Oswald Obeldabel visiting relatives and his boyhood home in Germany. A Berlin dated Aug. 6 postcard features him and eight friends hoisting beer glasses, about eight percent, with a caption implying drinking in public, noting cultural differences with the United States.

Hopeful plans for Calumet sewer system relief take shape

Cook County Chicago News Bureau outlines a multi year program to build the California Avenue intercepting sewer from 139th Street to the Calumet Sago Channel serving Robbins Midlothian Oak Forest and parts of Harvey and Blue Island. The project includes a $1.56 million Harvey intercepting sewer and a $2.135 million Calumet intercepting sewer after 1930 with broader extensions and a $11.195 million Calumet treatment expansion. The north side plant costs $695,000 and land has been purchased. The north branch pumping station is in operation at about $2.72 million, pumping to the north side plant and storm water to the north shore channel.

Mrs. Alban Reich Sr dies at 83 in Dolton

Mrs. Alban Reich Sr aged 83 of 338 Lincoln avenue Dolton died Saturday after a six month illness. Born May 9 1847 in Germany she emigrated to the U S in 1866 and married Alban Reich in 1867. Funeral services were held August 12 with interment at Hazelwood cemetery.
