Riverdale Flower Show Sets Stage for Community Display

Months of work by the Riverdale Garden club culminate in a two day flower show at Riverdale Village Hall. Exhibits cover specimen blooms, arrangements, living-room displays and children's entries with prizes of garden pottery and ribbons. Special events include flower dances and a host of officials manage decorations prizes and publicity.

Halsted Street Bridge Closure Plans Widening Route Changes

The Halsted Street bridge over the Little Calumet River at North Harvey closed last Monday for widening and sidewalk addition. The near-new structure is too narrow for the widened street and will be completed in 60 days. Traffic detours via 147th Indiana Avenue 144th and 138th streets.

W F Propper reports travel from Bern to Genoa with tunnel notes and stops in Naples and Rome Italy on 7 18 30. He describes photographing Columbus birth house at Genoa viewing Mt Vesuvius Pompeii ruins and Rome tombs of Saints Peter and Paul opened eight years earlier and reached by candlelit tunnels. Obituary: Jacob Schneider of Riverdale Dies After Illness

Jacob Schneider aged 19 6 25 of 334 East 186th Place Riverdale died Saturday at St Francis Hospital Blue Island after a severe cold led to pleuro pneumonia and abscess. A five year Arrows baseball team member he worked for La Salle Extension University. Survived by parents Frederick and wife, two brothers Alexander and Robert, sister Alvina. Funeral at home and St Pauls Church conducted by Rev Kemnitz. Interment Oakland Cemetery.

Bandits Hit Roseland Roadhouse in Shootout Killing Two

Anthony Sodo owner of Tony’s roadhouse on Ridge road east of Thornton repelled a three-man hold up. He killed the first two bandits with a double barrel shotgun as they left, the third escaped after a loaded shell ran out. The dead pair were Milton Simon and Alex Zill. Lester Gascon was captured days later.

A large crowd gathered at Riverdale Park last Wednesday evening to hear the Riverdale Concert Band. Musicians donate their services and another concert is planned for Wednesday evening, August 6, at the same park.

The new 16 inch water main laid by Illinois Central R R is nearly finished. Assistant foreman James Stack and chief caller Dan Lucas supervised the digging and piping with no leaks. Connection at Wentworth avenue and 119th streets ties into a 24 inch main, boosting supply for Riverdale Dalton and nearby railroad facilities.
