Dolton Board Protests Zoning Change Near Greenwood Road

Dolton trustees directed President Hastings and attorneys to petition Cook County zoning to block re zoning of the area east of the village along Greenwood road to slaughterhouse use instead of farm zoning. The action follows concerns that such businesses offend surrounding communities.

Ivanhoe PTA Panel Discussion Planned for April Meeting

Ivanhoe PTA invites members and friends to a panel discussion at the April 18 meeting at 8 pm. Participants include Noble J. Hero Medic Dies in Luzon Service Letter Reveals Valor

A letter from Captain Robert J. Ogborn recounts Private John M. Braun’s death on Luzon February 2 while evacuating wounded under fire near Munoz. Braun, a litter bearer, repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire and was killed near an enemy position. he is buried near San Fabian. Braun received the Purple Heart posthumously, and his brothers James and Tom are later in action.

Drivers License Renewal Blanks Now Available

The village offices and various outlets now hold renewal application blanks. Current licenses expire May 1 and must be renewed for a three year period. Qualified drivers receive new permits automatically upon filing with a 50 cent fee. Minor renewals use a blue form signed by a parent or guardian and witnessed by a notary. Active duty Illinois service members keep licenses through the war.

Mohr Brothers Serve Overseas In World War II

Pvt. David Mohr, son of Mr. and Mrs. Godfried Mohr of Riverdale, is believed wounded in New Guinea and en route home. Brother August Mohr has been wounded twice in Holland and Bastogne with paratroopers, and Jacob Mohr serves in the Navy in the Pacific.

Washington PTA Announces Spring Festival Plans

The Washington PTA schedules a Spring Festival on Friday April 20 at 7 30 p m in the school at 189th and School Street. Activities include booths ice cream hot dogs candy movies magician marionette show bingo cards a post office food shop cake walk a teachers booth children entertainment and dancing. Tickets 12 cents includes tax with door sales. Donations to buy frankfurters welcomed. Door prize is a $25 War Bond.

The Riverdale fire department was dispatched Saturday at 1 30 p m to extinguish a prairie fire near 246 West 138th Street. Firefighters battled the flames and kept the spread from the nearby properties.

Villages Dolton Riverdale and South Holland vote next Tuesday April 17 for four year terms amid Riverdale campaigns two slates contesting the outcome. Prospert Airport CAP Air Show Hailed For Recruiting Month

Civil Air Patrol aims to recruit 250000 cadets with an Illinois quota of 15000 and designates April as Illinois Civil Air Patrol Recruiting Month. Squadron 613-3 will host two air shows at Prospert Airport Tinley Park on April 15 and Rubinham Airport Harvey on April 29. The Prospert show opens at 2 pm featuring formation flying acrobatics spot landing contests bomb dropping message pickup ground maneuvers and CAP pilot demonstrations. Admission is free with a chance to win free flying instruction.

S/Sgt John Shirritt Home on 45 Day Furlough

S/Sgt John Shirritt arrived at the home of his parents in Ivanhoe on a 45 day furlough after 31 months overseas with a combat mapping squadron. He served in England Africa Corsica and Italy and flew home from Italy to New York before continuing by train. He will rejoin his squadron after furlough.
