The Red Cross War Fund drive ended March 31 in Dalton and Riverdale with Dalton raising about $2,000 of a $1,500 quota and Riverdale reporting about $2,000 of a $2,500 goal. Final totals await remaining contributions and complete reports next week.

Lincoln P T A meets in the Lincoln school movie room at 7 45 p m to discuss Education Legislation led by Principal Merle Kauffman. Fathers will view bird hunting films and second grade mothers will be hostesses. Edward Krueger returns home Mar 29 from Pittsburgh to spend Easter with his parents in Riverdale.
A nationwide Brake Emphasis Program by the International Association of Chiefs of Police runs from April 15 to June 1. Local officers will perform a non punitive brake check on motorists involved in accidents or traffic violations and hand out safety leaflets to encourage maintenance of safe brakes.
About 55 Riverdale Troop 9 scouts received the War Production Board honor for last year’s scrap paper drives. Each winner had to collect 1,000 pounds of paper. The communities of Riverdale and Ivanhoe helped, and the group now aims to collect 1,000 pounds per member for the General Eisenhower award ending April 30.
A meeting of the Progressive Party of Riverdale will be held Monday April 9 at 8 p m in the Riverdale village hall. Women are especially invited to attend. Chairman Lt. William Hoffman of the Army Transport Command visited Riverdale and Harvey during a Chicago stopover en route to Coeur d Alene Idaho after fourteen months in Africa and India.
Gilbert D. Olson age 51 of Chicago died last Friday noon while switching cars in the G E I yard center in Dalton. He fell from a head car as trains moved. an inquest followed at 784 West 79th Street Chicago. Olson served over twenty years with the railroad and is survived by his wife. Funeral at Cedar Park Cemetery. This marked the yard center’s second fatal accident that month after Michael Momovich’s crushing death March 12 in the machine shop.
The Washington P T A will meet Thursday April 12 at 7 20 p m in the Washington school music room. The Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts will present the program with community singing and refreshments. A spring festival is planned for Friday evening April 20 with 12 cent tickets and a $25 War Bond door prize. For info call Mrs Ed Kay Riv 391.
The Bowen P T A sponsors a community dance on Saturday April 21 at the acheol gymnasium starting at 8 pm Residents of Dolton and Riverdale are invited.
Cpl Edward Fike and Sgt Allan Blanke both of Dolton have been wounded in action overseas. Fike, with the First Army on the Western Front, is in a French hospital with a wounded knee after serving nearly two years. He reported being in a foxhole in Germany when wounded. His brother Charles left for Army training March 26. Blanke, with the Army Air Corps, sustained slight wounds to his left arm and hand during a March 22 air raid in the Dutch East Indies. he mails n from there March 26. He named his plane Little Miss Winnie in honor of his wife and his wing Sharon for his daughter.

The Ivanhoe Community church choir of fifteen voices will perform the cantata Crucifixion and Ascension at Dolton Methodist church next Sunday morning at 11. Cyril Skidmore directs the choir with Mrs Clarence Brown as pianist. A practice by the Wives and Sisters Unit affiliated with Mothers of World War II is set for Tuesday evening April 10 at Mrs Merle Kauffman's home 622 Engle st.
Incumbents in Thornton township were re elected with the Republican ticket winning all but the assessor post which Democrat Wm O’Hara captured by 673 votes in a 12000 vote total. Calumet township also elected Home Rule candidates. Elementary tallies show Republicans carrying most Thornton offices while Calumet split between Home Rule and Citizens with multiple precinct results listed.
