Bomb threat at Rio Rancho High was hoax

A male caller with a deep voice phoned in a bomb threat to Rio Rancho Department of Public Safety prompting a three hour lockdown. Students were moved to Rio Rancho Stadium for safety while officers searched the campus and found nothing. Traffic around Loma Colorado and Broadmoor was detoured.

County sets detention appreciation week

Sandoval County commissioners declared the week of September 17 as Detention Officer and Employee Appreciation Week honoring Sandoval County Detention Center staff. Commissioner Jack Thomas praised the profession and noted he would not want that job.

Former Rio Rancho mayor seeks comeback in 2008 race

Former Rio Rancho mayor and current New Mexico State Representative Tom Swisstack announces a bid for the mayoral seat in the March 2008 election. He vows to involve residents and neighboring communities while noting that past issues stem from a 16 month tenure by Kevin Jackson. Swisstack says he would not abandon his legislative role and would retire from the Legislature only if necessary. Mayor Mike Williams says he will run again for District 1 council, continuing his service after being appointed to fill Jackson's vacancy.
