Cattle rustling surge hits the state

Fred Owensby of the Cattle Sanitary Board reports 200 rustling cases under investigation as butchering rises. He warns of a serious outbreak of cattle theft with meat hungry thieves operating heavily across the state, reflecting a 200 percent increase from a year ago.

Northwest Valley High School construction begins

Construction of the Northwest Valley High School at Coors and Corrales Rd NW is set to start this week after the Albuquerque Board of Education accepted a $4.2 million low bid. The project aims to relieve overcrowding at West Mesa High by opening with about 1,250 students in 1974, though nine classrooms are to be cut and portable units may be needed by fall 1975.

Pancake Day Set Oct 6 by Northwest Albuquerque Lions Club

A pancake day to raise funds for charitable projects will be held Saturday October 6 at Sandoval County Elementary School Corrales from 1am to 7am. For details contact John Edvaney publicity chairman at 898 4464. Also reports of cattle thefts in North Valley with Charolais cows targeted Clors Rd Crore etc.

Open Show Set Sunday by New Mexico Morgan Horse Club

The first annual open horse show by the New Mexico Morgan Horse Club airs Sunday at the Bernalillo County Sheriffs Posse grounds El Pueblo and Edith M Albuquerque. Gates open 8 a.m. with a noon to 1 p.m. break. Spectators admitted free. Most classes carry a 3.50 entry fee except championship stakes. All breeds eligible. Class winners receive a Nambe ware trophy and ribbons to sixth place. Championship stakes in Western and English pleasure. Entry fee five dollars with 75 percent returned to top six exhibitors. A special award goes to the registered Morgan with most show points. Entries may be made morning of show. No post-entry penalty. For information call Col. J. W. Rawlings of Corrales at 898-0724.
