Police and fire departments host an information exchange session Monday from 5 30 to 7 30 p m at Loma Colorado Main Library to share holiday safety tips and discuss volunteering with the Community Emergency Response Team. Arts board seeks District 4 applicants

The City of Rio Rancho seeks candidates for District 4 on the arts commission. Applicants must live in Rio Rancho and have art-related experience. Term lasts until Dec 31 2018. Rio Rancho Public Schools approve layoffs by freeze and cuts

Rio Rancho Public Schools board moves to address a 1.8 million dollar operating shortfall with a hiring freeze on most vacancies, automatic replacements for teachers and bus staff, and a review process for other positions. The substitute budget falls about 850 thousand, trimmed by fifty thousand. district officials warn extended substitutes may strain operations. Chief Operations Officer Richard Bruce notes only one critical vacancy since October and expects no layoffs, with preliminary savings around 317 thousand.

Fair exposes students to health career possibilities

ANTA ANA PUEBLO The Allied Health Career Fair drew high school drama clubs dressed as zombies to illustrate allied health roles during an epidemic. At Sandoval Fire Station No 21, tables shared with UNM West CNM and Highlands University while Richard Draper of the Sandoval Health Collaborative noted allied health as the fastest growing health care sector with roles supporting doctors nurses dentists and pharmacists.

UNM West outlines plan for academic expansion

UNM West plans to become a health science education center beginning next fall. Leaders from UNM West and UNMHSC outlined an updated academic model at a Rio Rancho work session, proposing the campus as an undergrad hub with on site four year plans for dental hygiene nursing medical lab sciences EMS and pharmacy.

High Resort reconstruction set to start November 28

City announces a multimillion dollar High Resort Boulevard project from Broadmoor to NM 528. It replaces pavement and curb with ADA upgrades, sidewalks, new water and recycled water lines, and manholes. Two westbound lanes close. traffic shifts to eastbound lanes. Detours and night work expected. Funding from a 2016 bond and city utility funds.
