Rio Rancho police plan Saturday food drive and safety events

RRPD officers will host a Saturday food drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at three locations including Ridgecrest Albertsons, NM 528 Walmart, and Unser Walmart with SWAT, criminal investigations, and traffic units collecting non-perishable items and promoting safety with seat belt cash and T-shirt giveaways.

Broadmoor Boulevard extension opens early with upgrades

Broadmoor Boulevard extension completed a month ahead of schedule with a two lane roadway from Linderhoff Avenue to Paseo del Volcan, new traffic signals at Idalia Road and Paseo del Volcan, and a crack seal and overlay on the existing road. Franklin's Earthmoving Inc. led the $2.68 million contract, Wilson & Company oversaw construction for $316,460, and utilities relocation cost $254,343. Total project cost reached $3.25 million funded by a state DOT grant, city impact fees, and the higher education facilities gross receipts tax. Mayor Gregg Hull and UNM West CEO Wynn Goering attended the red ribbon cutting.

Voters reject renewal of Sandoval hospital levy

Voters in Sandoval County vote against extending a 4.25 mill levy to fund Presbyterian Rust Medical Center and Sandoval Regional Medical Center in Rio Rancho. Unofficial totals show 29,230 opposed to 27,646 in favor. County Commissioner Don Chapman supported the measure, noting pocketbook concerns as the decisive factor.

Incumbents Hold Seats In Sandoval County Election

Republicans Dave Heil and Jay Block won seats on the Sandoval County Commission while Laura Montoya and Eileen Garbagni were re-elected treasurer and county clerk. Most incumbents won re election but District 23 Representative Paul Pacheco lost to former commissioner Daymon Ely in a tight race. Early Wednesday a potential automatic recount looms as 64.8 percent of eligible voters cast ballots.
