Black Hawk helicopter tours inspire Vista Grande first graders
Kathy Shallenberger's class toured a Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk on Red White and Blue Spirit Day at Vista Grande Elementary. The helicopter, used by a National Guard MedEvac unit, has been deployed to Kosovo and Afghanistan, aided hikers in the Sandias, and assisted during Hurricane Ike and California wildfires. Children asked about guns, but the crew explained it is not a gunship. The UH-60 is a four bladed twin engine utility helicopter first flown in 1974 after MT TAS program development.
