Aerostat Association hosts West Mesa trash pickup event

Albuquerque Aerostat Ascension Association sponsors a trash pickup Sunday November 20 at the launch area north of Rio Rancho. Coordinator Ohip Knox says West Mesa garbage is a major issue and balloonists, visible on the mesa, are unfairly blamed. Local balloonists say they regularly haul out trash and have organized cleanups before. Rio Rancho city councilors and Sandoval County Commission members are invited to fly weather permitting to witness the effort and competing chase crews will tally which group collects the most trash. The event starts at sunrise near the 151 Rainbow launch site.
