Budget Woes and Raises Shape Rio Rancho Finance
Rio Rancho's budget shows sluggish growth despite new employers. Property taxes are projected at 3.2 million next year and gross receipts at 12.6 million with an ending fund balance around 750 thousand. A 3 percent merit raise for most workers contrasts with a 5 percent DPSA bump, financed by about 190 thousand in merit increases and 380 thousand in COLAs.

Former Intel employee charged with fraud
Annette Vallejos a 42 year old Rio Rancho woman faces 37 counts of embezzlement and 40 counts of forgery after an Intel internal probe found she may have siphoned 47247.96 over 18 months from December 1995 to June 1997 using cash advances and forged supervisor signatures on purchase orders to pay the Visa bill. Vallejos worked at Intel since 1987 as a full time administrator and was terminated last November after the probe. DPS and Detective Richard Rodriguez led the case and Vallejos confessed to charging items to the corporate card and forging signatures. Sandoval County will prosecute on 41 of 77 counts with plea negotiations likely yielding supervised probation due to cooperation and lack of prior criminal history.
