Local Library Event Highlights Harvey Girls Legacy

DORI presents Fred Harvey Southwest Couriers at Loma Colorado Main Library exploring the Harvey Girls era in a program funded by Friends of the Library of Rio Rancho and The New Mexico Humanities Council. The Vista Grande community hosts a fifth annual patio sale at 4101 Meadowlark Lane with over 20 sellers from 8 am to noon. Heritage Day in Corrales at Casa San Ysidro features talks by David C de Baca about veterans, cemetery tours, kids activities, crafts, music, and traditional demonstrations from 9:30 am to 4 pm. Several local gardening and craft vendors, fresh foods, and live music mark a busy weekend with more event details available by calling 892-9300 or 553-5591.

The Placitas Community Library hosts a Joe Cabaza photo exhibit in the Collin Room Gallery through May 31. Cabaza, a Santa Fe native and Texas A&M alumnus now living in New Mexico, draws on Mono No Aware and Wabi-Sabi influences. The Stage presents Dev with doors at 9 p.m. and tickets at $9.73.

Stand-up Comedy Night at Santa Ana Star Stage

Santa Ana Star Casino hosts Robert Hawkins Gregory Freiler and Sarah Mowrey for individual sets. Hawkins uses intelligent humor to reframe daily quirks, Freiler shares experiences as the new kid and educator, and Mowrey showcases Southwest stand-up work since 2010. Doors open 6:30 p.m., show starts 7:30 p.m.

Santa Ana Star welcomes Carl Silva to Lounge 54

New Mexico songwriter and entertainer Carl Silva headlines Lounge 54 at Santa Ana Star tonight and again Saturday at 9 p.m. The Emmy nominated performer covers R B, rock, pop, country, jazz and Latin with a wide instrumental arsenal and rich vocal style. Admission is free for 21 plus crowds.

Gettysburg of the West talk at Sandoval County Museum

Matt Barbour of Jemez Historic Site will discuss the battle known as The Gettysburg of the West on Sunday May 17 at 2 p.m. at DeLary House, Sandoval County Historical Society Museum near Bernalillo. The talk covers Confederate victories in New Mexico, a 1987 mass grave find, and archaeo logical and forensic findings. Admission is 5 for adults and 16 and under. free for Friends of Coronado members. Reservations not required. seating limited.

Pueblo Byways Returns to Coronado Historic Site

Native American art from the Dorothy Dunn collection at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture in Santa Fe is back on view at Coronado Historic Site after a construction project. The exhibit features works by Vidal Casiquito Jr. Gilbert Atencio Pablita Velarde and Velino Shye Herrera among others. Hours are 8 30 a m to 5 p m daily except Tuesdays. The Corrales Historical Society hosts a May 21 speaker on the village library’s building story at Old San Ysidro Church.

Outside Bike and Brew Festival heads to Santa Fe May 13 17

Vile agacine and Cycle Santa Fe prepare for a five day lifestyle festival blending road and mountain biking with nightly craft beer events films and activities all ages. Fiber Arts Fiesta Set for May in Albuquerque

The 10th biennial Fiber Arts Fiesta runs May 20 to 23 at EXPO New Mexico in the Manual Lujan Complex. Exhibits and vendors accompany classes on scarf weaving polymer clay buttons silk painting Kumihima and more with Nancy Evans offering antique textile and lace ID at the education booth. The event also showcases the Modern Quilts exhibit from QuiltCon 2015.
