Puentes resigns as Rio Rancho High girls coach

Rio Rancho High School seeks a new varsity girls basketball coach after six year leader Patrick Puentes resigned earlier this month. Athletic Director Bruce Carver aims to hire by month’s end, with duties to oversee the high school program and feeder middle schools. Puentes notes the run included state trips five seasons in a row and a close 37-34 loss in the first round of the 2014-15 state tournament.

Jones captures Ty Murray Invite at WisePies Arena

Ben Jones won the Ty Murray Invitational in Albuquerque with a 90.25-point ride on Beaver Creek Beau, earning 39 350 for his first BFTS win since 2010. Joao Ricardo Vieira finished second, Guilherme Marchi third, and Stormy Wing fourth. The event set a PBR arena attendance record with 29 963 fans over three days.

Jones Sets 41 Point School Record In Storm Victory

Ryan Jones, a two time first team All State pick and District 1 6A Co Player of the Year, scored 41 in a January 10 APS Metro win over Cibola to set the school mark. He added 24 in an 81 77 double overtime state quarterfinal win over Sandia while maintaining a 3.19 GPA and volunteering with Special Olympics and youth programs. He will play at the University of Massachusetts Lowell under a national letter of intent.
