Storm fall to Hobbs in Class 6A title game

Cleveland High battled back from a double digit first half deficit to lead late, but Hobbs won 60-56 at WisePies Arena. Marcus Williams posted 20 points 11 rebounds for the Storm, and Trey Nelson’s late steal and finish kept the Eagles ahead as Cleveland shot poorly from three and fouled late. Hobbs improved to 30-2 behind 23 points from Nelson and 16 from Kelvin Jones, earning the 17th state title in coach Mike Smith’s tenure.

The Class 6A championship game Saturday ended the winter high school sports season. RRHS teams finished runner up in multiple events including football and cross country while optimism remains for spring sports across RRHS and CHS.
