Smith to leave Rio Rancho City Council this summer
Rio Rancho City Councilor Shelby Smith of District 5 announced Wednesday he will step down in mid to late summer to help care for his parents in Phoenix. He noted input on a replacement with input from the mayor as discussions proceed. Smith was elected in a 2014 runoff with Thomas Buckner. Councilor Cheryl Everett praised his courage and conviction as the city faced rough times.
